3.20.2015 :: Striper are here!!!!
Despite drought conditions and low water, early batches of striped bass are still coming up right now. This water is fishable. And we couldn’t ask for better weather–not too hot, not too cold–the river is right! Fishing has been good the last 3 to 4 days, and we expect it to continue to improve through the water release for irrigation in late May, possibly beyond. We’re seeing brand new fish that are not expected to spawn until the 2nd week of May under current water conditions. These fish are 4 to 5 days out of salt water and extremely fresh and hard-fighting. They’re not overly abundant but we have enough in our system to have an enjoyable day here in our local water.
The past few days we’ve boated limits or near limits of keeper stripers, and tossed as many shakers back, which makes for happy anglers. We had a new angler in the boat today who boated her first striper. It’s safe to say she’s hooked! On one of our latest trips, we had a lot of bites, and a lot of missed bites–it’s a great sign considering how early it is in the season.
We’ve not seen this number of fish, this early in the season–I think we might see the striped bass fishing on the Sac River peak earlier than in years past. Now is the time to go! We have some openings in the next few weeks. Drop us a line or call to book your trip!
